Networking: The Art of Storytelling

A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to attend a young professional networking workshop. I know what you are thinking… networking workshop? But, interestingly enough, I learned a lot of great takeaways, and a vast majority of them apply to much more than your typical networking conversation. While there were a lot of things I found helpful, the most interesting thing I learned wasn’t necessarily related just to networking. Our speaker spent some time going over the idea of a “30-second commercial” – a stump speech or elevator pitch, if you will. I’m sure this isn’t a new concept...

Allow Criticism to Ignite Your Passion, Not Your Anger

“The final proof of greatness lies in being able to endure criticism without resentment.” – Elbert Hubbard Easier said than done, right? Criticism, whether constructive or just plain harsh, is often – and quickly – taken personally. Upon hearing those words of critique, a typical reaction usually includes a flight or fight response. Either the desire to give up or some kind of defensive comeback immediately comes to mind and is amplified depending on the size of the task being criticized. Deep down, we all know we need to get over this type of reply. Believe it or not, there...

The Why is What We Do

Experience. Engagement. Interaction. All three of these words could be used to describe our decision, as consumers, to try a new product, remain loyal to a company or ditch a certain brand. The pattern of behavior has been happening for years, but few have been able to pinpoint what really drives our decision-making when it comes to the vast marketplace of goods and services and the equally, ever-expanding ways brands can communicate with us. In 2009, Simon Sinek presented a Ted Talk on how great leaders inspire action. His model of “Golden Circles” digs deep down to one word: “Why”....

Social Influencers: The Trendy and Trustworthy

It’s no shock the digital space is oversaturated with advertisements, and with that “clutter” comes frustrated consumers struggling to tune ads out, leading customers to navigate nontraditional avenues to consume information. Who wants to see generic advertisements with unsupported claims – how are we supposed to decipher what products or services are trustworthy? Cue the social influencer. Ah, the social influencer: the newest marketing weapon of the digital age. To many, an “influencer” is considered a widely-known (and widely-followed) celebrity who endorses a product via social media. Look a bit deeper, and you will find an entire universe of these...

A Helping Hand

Within our community, there are so many different areas of need and many different ways to serve. Every member of the Flourish team has their own set of passion projects where we are able to volunteer our skills and time to in order to lift the community up. Recently, Briana, a vocal dog and general animal lover (read obsessed), joined Greenville Humane Society as a Pet Therapy volunteer.  Every other week, she grabs a puppy and takes it to the retirement home to visit –  all while trying not to add a dog to her family. Briana is able to...
