The Reserve at Lake Keowee has hired Mike Lissner as its full-time Director of Tennis to support the club’s growing tennis program. Lissner comes to The Reserve having previously worked at Norbeck Country Club in Rockville, Md., where he served as Director of Tennis. He started at The Reserve at Lake Keowee on March 1.
Lissner will be offering complimentary weekly clinics, for beginners to seasoned players, for The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s members. He will also be available for private lessons, will help the club’s growing number of Pickle Ball players, and will be working with court scheduling and promoting travel league play.
“The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s fast growing tennis program will receive a major boost with the recent hiring of Mike Lissner, our full-time Director of Tennis,” said David Fleming, General Manager of The Reserve at Lake Keowee. “Mike has extensive experience in managing high profile tennis programs, teaching and mentoring young aspiring players, and working with league play and interclub programs. We are looking forward to many years of Mike’s professional leadership of our tennis program.”
Over the past several years, The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s tennis program has grown substantially with eight teams now competing at the USTA level (three ladies’ teams, one men’s team, two mixed teams and two combo teams). One of the mixed teams and the men’s team played in the state championship in their first two years. Tennis Professional Sophie Woorons and Max Desmars from the Brookstone Club in Anderson, S.C., were coming down to The Reserve weekly to hold classes and lessons for the community in years’ past. Nearly 100 of The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s residents (31 percent of total residents) participate regularly in tennis activities. In addition to the competitive tennis, social tennis has become very popular with Reserve members on Friday evenings where all levels of players get together to play, have dinner and enjoy a really good time.
Lissner and his wife, Chrissie who also has a strong tennis playing and teaching background, relocated to Upstate S.C. from Ellicott City, Md., where they have resided for the past 30 years. Mike and his older son, Ryan, have won numerous family and father-son championships, and Lissner has been a finalist and winner of many clay court championships over the past nine years. Their younger son, Cody, enjoys the game of golf moreso than tennis and is excited to play on The Reserve’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Lissner most recently served as the Director of Junior Tennis for The Columbia Association located in Columbia, Md.
“Chrissie and I are extremely happy to be at The Reserve,” Lissner said. “From the time we first visited last year, we were struck by the beautiful facilities, striking scenery, and exceptionally warm welcome. I will look to build on what the members have started by assisting with existing activities as well as offer new programming to grow and energize tennis here at The Reserve.”
