Finishing the 2017 Assaults

Last Monday, May 15th, over 500 cyclists made the trek from Spartanburg, South Carolina to Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina. Cyclists climbed 11,000 feet over 103 miles for the 42nd Assaults on Mt. Mitchell and Marion presented by Greenville Health Systems. A huge congratulations is due to the cyclists who train and exhaust themselves conquering “The Beast of The East”. Special congratulations to Winston David who finished first with a time of 5:25:11. It was an amazing day filled with challenging climbs, beautiful views and fantastic weather. Great memories were made and we are already looking forward to the 2018 Assaults. The organization behind it all is the Freewheelers Cycling Association, based in Spartanburg, who work on involvement in the community by focusing on awareness and education surrounding bicycle safety and healthy lifestyles. The Freewheelers chose Hub Cycle as the beneficiary of the 2017 Assaults. Hub Cycle operates through Partners for Active Living in Spartanburg to provide the reliable transportation of bicycles to those who can’t afford cars.
